This has been another fabulous term in Co-Curricular Drama. We kicked off with a workshop for the Drama Scholars with actor Matt Burns delving into character building tools of Laban technique. We then with a few delays for national periods of mourning we began work on the Senior School Musical: Dolly Parton’s 9-5. This toe-tapping country inspired show was here to show us all how to take down the patriarchy, eighties style! The students, led by the extraordinary trio of Rebecca H, Matilda L and Tea E ably supported Jacob C as the insufferable Franklin Hart created a truly epic production, all singing, all dancing and with its heart in our school quest for equality!
This term also saw the establishment of a new Year 7 Drama Club run by the Drama scholars of the Lower VI.
Just before half term we had auditions for our year 8 and 9 Musical Matilda – which will be performed in February and for which rehearsals and production design are well underway.
We rounded out the term with a treat for Drama Scholars as 33 students from Year 8 to Upper VI travelled to London to indulge in both halves of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and all the theatrical magic contained therein!
2022 finishes for Drama with final touches being put on the plans for our joint trip to NYC with our colleagues in Dance and preparations underway for more workshops, a Year 7 Play in a Day and for the Lower VI production of Liz Lochhead’s adaptation of Dracula due to be performed in the school grounds in June 2023.
