VAT on Fees

From the 1st January 2025, all UK independent schools will be required by law to charge Value Added Tax (VAT) of 20% on educational services and any boarding provision. At Ardingly we are determined to do all we can to minimise the impact of this legislative change on current and prospective families. To this end, Ardingly’s Board of Governors have agreed that the school will provide a significant package of support to absorb half of the VAT and therefore only pass on 10% of the VAT to parents, spread over two academic years.

This means that our tuition fees will only increase by 5% from January 2025 and then a further 5%, plus inflation, from September 2025, with the College absorbing the remainder. The fees shown in the document below for this academic year are therefore inclusive of VAT.

We are pleased that our focus on growing non-fee income from other sources (such as holiday lettings and international schools) over recent years is enabling us to minimise the fees increase for Ardingly families, without compromising in any way the breadth and excellence of the educational provision for our pupils.
