The English Department launched the inaugural Inter-House Slam Poetry Competition this term, in which representatives from each house read and performed poems in a public place to celebrate poetry. The Slam was an inclusive, open space, giving pupils a supportive environment to share their truth, and present it in a format so easily accessible and unpretentious that those who had never engaged with poetry before were able to do so. There were several stand-out performances in each of the age categories (Lower, Middle and Upper School), with Mertens House taking the laurels following a host of excellent performances.
