The Harris and Argent Science Communication Competition (H&A) involves LVI students researching an area of STEM of their own choosing, culminating in an academic, conference-style final in which they present their work in the form of an academic poster and a presentation. The winner is selected on their ability to convey real passion for their chosen field, demonstrate clearly what they have learnt, and communicate their ideas in an innovative and engaging way.
The prize is a fully-funded place at the London International Youth Science Forum, a two-week residential science camp held at Imperial College in July/August. Two distinguished OAs, Jeremy Collingridge and Stephen Bowen, have made a generous donation to fund places over a ten-year period. Both attended as part of the judging panel.
There were three finalists:
- Cher: The development of 3D human cardiac construct from hPSC/IPSC
- Sofia: Dietary Factors affecting Alzheimer’s Incidence
- Jayden: Xenotransplantation should be taken as an alternative for patients
All three participants did a terrific job, but the judging panel decided Cher was the winner, for her project on human cardiac constructs, a potentially life-saving area of bioengineering.
