Ardingly is absolutely delighted to report the exceptional achievement of four of our students in the prestigious Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators 2026, a national competition organised annually by The Queen’s College, Oxford, which attracts over 25,000 entries every year.

Established in 2020 and named in honour of Anthea Bell OBE, one of the UK’s most celebrated literary translators, the prize recognises excellence in translation and promotes language learning among young people across the country.

A Lower Sixth linguist was awarded Area Winner for the South East region for her Spanish-to -English translation (Level 2) and a Remove student was also highly commended for her translation from German to English.

A further two Lower Sixth students, one from Hilton and the other an Aberdeen student, both won commendations for their translations from French and Russian respectively into English.

Based on last year’s overall statistics this achievement places all four of them in the top 0.01% of competitors!

Well done to them all on this remarkable achievement.
