After a long wait and much anticipation, all 10 senior school houses sat elbow to elbow in a full Ardingly College Chapel to celebrate the return of the 2022 House Music and Ensemble Competition. Following 6 weeks of rehearsals, and still battling the final stages of COVID measures, each house came together to perform their 80’s themed House Song from the tower conducted by their chosen leader and accompanied by their own house band. The atmosphere was electric and the competition fierce as each house commanded the stage, showcasing their house spirit and talent. Moving swiftly to the second part of the competition, each House Ensemble took centre stage near the high altar with their house members seated in front of them for support and encouragement. As always, the song choices were varied and charismatic, ranging from ABBA to Dolly Parton to Fleetwood Mac to Spandau Ballet, skilfully demonstrating a multitude of instruments including rock bands, vocals, strings, brass, wind, and tuned percussion.
None of this is possible without the help and support of the house staff, the music department, and the tech support team, but the real stars of the show were the pupils, and the very best part of the day was to have everyone together in chapel making music. A big thank you to our guest adjudicator, Mr Neil Matthews, Director of Music at Hurstpierpoint College for his positive and generous comments. After an exciting and inspiring afternoon of LIVE music, as in any competition, it was his unenviable tasking of choosing a winner. Huge congratulations to every pupil that took part, but a special cheer for the following winners:
