Trip to Kenya

In 2023, a group of 22 students will be embarking on a two-week trip to Kenya in the hopes of bringing support and encouragement to underprivileged children. The aim of the trip is to assist the outreach work started by the Langalanga Trust, a UK-based charity who’s primary objective is to educate underprivileged children and young adults, providing a bright future and opportunities to thrive.

The work will be done in two primary schools: Mwega Primary and Ndogo Primary. At Ndogo Primary School, we will be teaching basic lessons such as learning about colours or simple addition in maths. Previously, at Ndogo Primary School, Ardingly students have built a restroom facility block in 2016 and an adventure playground in 2019. Ardingly has recently established a connection with Mwega Primary School, located in the Rift Valley near where we are staying. So far, previous students have renovated classrooms and have provided school supplies and necessities such as desks and pens.

During our course, we will also visit the Restart Centre, initiated in 2008 by Mary Coulson MBE to provide for the desperate needs of the children on the streets of the local town Gilgil.

In preparation to the Kenya trip, students are raising money for the necessary classroom supplies and support the lunchbox scheme, through events such as the PJ Day, where students donate £2 to wear their pyjamas for the day!
