Students from the German and History departments enjoyed a highly successful joint trip to Berlin. Over three packed days in this vibrant and historically rich capital, pupils immersed themselves in both the language and the past in an engaging and memorable way.

The itinerary was full and varied, with an average of 17,000 steps covered each day! Highlights included a guided walking tour of Berlin’s most significant landmarks, and a visit to the German Parliament, where students experienced Norman Foster’s striking glass dome atop the Reichstag. They also explored Yadegar Asisi’s immersive digital reconstruction of life in divided Berlin, alongside visits to the DDR Museum and the Topography of Terror exhibition, both of which brought 20th-century history vividly to life.

Students were also treated to breathtaking 360-degree views from the iconic TV Tower, visited remaining sections of the Berlin Wall, and enjoyed a brief opportunity for shopping at the Mall of Berlin. Along the way, they sampled local cuisine—including currywurst and Döner—while our German students confidently practised their transactional language skills in real-life contexts.

An enriching and thoroughly enjoyable experience for all involved.
