Ardingly Senior students pulled together recently to raise money for charity, with each house choosing a particular charity to fundraise for.

Burgess House chose to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and Pelican Parcels. Breast Cancer Care focuses on four key areas of research: risk and prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment and secondary breast cancer. Whereas Pelican parcels is a Brighton & Hove based charity which supports disadvantaged families and carers by supplying them with either pre-loved or new essential items. Burgess House came together to hold a crochet sale to fundraise for the two charities, crocheting very cute birds and bees! Well done burgess!

Similarly, Neal house chose to raise money for another Brighton-based charity: Off the Fence/Gateway Women’s Centre. The mission of Off the Fence is to eradicate social and spiritual poverty in Brighton & Hove. Neal House chose to sell yummy treats to support the Women’s Gateway Charity as it specifically helps women overcome abuse and homelessness, whilst providing them with friendships to last a lifetime, a mission close the student’s hearts!

In Crosse, students enjoy fundraising and aiding a variety of charities, however, they feel as though they have a special connection to Kangaroos, who are a charity which focus on support for children, teenagers and adults with severe learning disabilities. So far this year Crosse has raised over £600 for the Kangaroos charity and are planning ways to continue our support in the future.

Another charity supported at the fair was the Imara-Uganda Education Fund, a charity that helps and supports children, who were forced and abducted to become child soldiers and thereby missed out on a basic education. Aberdeen chose to fundraise for them, supporting current campaigns like scholarships and the building of a secondary school for the blind. This charity is awarding scholarships to some of the most disadvantaged children, and bringing new hope and purpose to their lives.

Toynbee chose to fundraise for Chailey Heritage Special needs School, a locally based charity in West Sussex, as it provides care and education for children and young people with complex neuro-disabilities. Chailey Heritage makes life changing impacts to those living with cerebral palsy, visual/sensory impairments; as it offers a range of levels of support for those as young as three to residential care and helping those start an adult future.

Thorner House chose to fundraise for David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF), a highly effective wildlife charity funding key conservation projects across Africa and Asia. Founded by the late wildlife artist David Shepherd, who during his painting career witnessed the destruction of wildlife from poaching, hunting and human-wildlife conflict, the charity supports eight vulnerable species, as well as the rangers who are frequently engaged in the often dangerous work of protecting these beautiful animals from harm.

All of these organisations are close to the hearts of Ardingly, and the Senior pupils all enjoyed raising money for worthy causes! Well done Senior students!
