Yr 7 students were ecstatic when a Bill they have been supporting to ban trophy hunting was passed through the House of Commons.  This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness democracy in action.

They were warmly greeted by Henry Smith MP, who is responsible for the Bill, and had a chance to chat with him before proceeding to the Gallery to witness the Speaker’s Procession. The students were in awe as they watched the proceedings and were delighted when the Bill was passed.

After the hearing, the children were the centre of attention in Westminster Hall, where they were approached by various MPs, including Trudy Harrison (Secretary of State for the Environment) and her Shadow counterpart, who wanted to know more about the students’ interest in the Bill and their school. The MPs were impressed by the children’s knowledge and behaviour, and commended them on their involvement in such an important issue.

The students also had the opportunity to meet Eduardo Goncalves, the Founder of Ban Trophy Hunting campaign, and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and had their photo taken with them. The experience was an unforgettable one for the students, who were praised for their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause.

The trip was a resounding success, and the students returned to their school with a renewed passion for activism and a better understanding of the democratic process. The Bill’s passage through the House of Commons was a momentous occasion, and the children were proud to have played a small part in it.
