Digital Learning

Digital learning is an integral part of an Ardingly College education. Our aim is to ensure every pupil develops the confidence, curiosity and capability to use technology thoughtfully and responsibly — preparing them for university, work and life in an increasingly digital world. Technology at Ardingly is never used for its own sake; it is carefully integrated to enhance learning, support creativity and strengthen the essential skills our students need. Maintaining the College’s status as a leading digital learning school is central to the Enquiry & Evaluation component of our World Ready programme.

As a Microsoft School, Ardingly has a forward-thinking digital strategy that blends innovation with strong educational principles. Our digital framework is designed to support collaboration, critical thinking and independent research, while also teaching pupils to evaluate information, use AI tools safely and understand their digital responsibilities.

Personal Devices and Microsoft 365

All Senior School pupils use a Microsoft Surface device, giving them access to digital tools that enrich classroom learning. Through Microsoft 365, students collaborate in real time, complete assignments online, build portfolios and develop digital fluency across subjects. Teachers also use Surface devices extensively, allowing for dynamic lessons, personalised feedback and seamless communication.

These tools ensure that pupils are equipped with the skills they need for higher education — from note-taking and research to presenting, analysing and managing digital information effectively.

Digital Skills Framework

We have introduced a bespoke Digital Skills Framework to give pupils a strong foundation in the competencies required for safe, ethical and effective use of technology. The framework evolves with the fast-changing digital landscape and includes guidance on areas such as:

  • managing online information
  • digital safety and wellbeing
  • data literacy and security
  • ethical use of generative AI
  • responding to misinformation
  • developing digital creativity and communication

This continuous and age-appropriate approach helps pupils become confident digital citizens, able to apply their skills beyond the classroom with independence and integrity.

Ardingly AI Toolkit

The Ardingly AI Toolkit
To help pupils and teachers navigate the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence, we have developed the Ardingly AI Toolkit. This provides practical guidance on using AI responsibly, understanding its capabilities and limitations, and applying it for academic enrichment rather than shortcuts.

The toolkit encourages pupils to think critically, evaluate AI-generated content and develop the judgment needed to use emerging technologies wisely and ethically.

A Responsible, Balanced Approach
While digital tools are widely used at Ardingly, we remain committed to ensuring technology supports, rather than replaces, meaningful human interaction. Pupils continue to benefit from hands-on learning, discussion, debate and collaboration in person. Our approach focuses on balance — using technology where it enhances learning while maintaining strong pastoral support and healthy digital boundaries.

Ardingly’s digital learning strategy ensures that every pupil leaves the College with the practical skills, critical mindset and confidence to thrive in a world shaped by rapid technological change.
