Welcome from the Head

About Ardingly > Welcome from the Head

Welcome to Ardingly College, where a world-class education meets a nurturing community.

I often describe Ardingly as a forward-looking school in a traditional setting. Our mission here is for every child to lead enjoyable and fulfilling lives; to discover and capitalise on their individual talents at school and be equipped to succeed in the world beyond.

At the heart of an Ardingly education is the assurance that every individual child is known, valued and encouraged as an individual. Our year groups in the Senior School are capped at around 140 students, which are large enough to offer a huge range of opportunities but small enough that every student can be really known as an individual. We also keep our pastoral groups as small as possible (with, for example, no more than ten students in a Tutor Group from Year 9 upwards) which means that no one can be overlooked and that anyone who is struggling will be quickly identified and given the support they need.

Every child has a unique character, a unique range of abilities and a unique contribution to make. Our purpose is to understand and develop their character, enhance their abilities, encourage and recognise their contributions, while fostering the values, personal qualities and skills they will need to thrive in the rapidly changing world beyond Ardingly.

I hope that this website gives you a good introduction to Ardingly, but do urge you to visit us in person and see for yourself what a special school this is.

Best wishes,

Ben Figgis
