Printer Switch Off

The IT Team are setting the College community the ultimate challenge during sustainability week – to be paperless for a week! The College uses the equivalent power to 43 family homes just running the printer network. We printed over 1 million pieces of paper in 2022, which equates to cutting down over 120 trees. As we increasingly digitise our ways of working this seems like a good opportunity to encourage staff and students to think of alternative ways of working that cause less environmental damage, so that in the long-term we can be as paperless as possible.

Rewilding Project

We have 420 trees arriving from The Woodland Trust and students will be planting them in the field adjacent to the Kiln Wood car park during lunchtimes on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of Sustainability Week. Students can plant and note the location of their trees (What3Words) and then check on their progress over the next few years. Imagine returning to school to see the trees in 20-30 years time. Whilst small at the moment, the trees will absorb increasing amounts of carbon dioxide and soon become habitat, food source and cover for wildlife.
