Solar Car Success
World Ready
6 Nov 2019
Ardingly College’s solar car has successfully completed the 2019 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia. The race truly is a phenomenal challenge, traversing across Australia from Darwin to Adelaide, dealing with temperatures of over 40 degrees and with all the adverse conditions of the outback: high crosswinds; small tornadoes; sandstorms and the fearsome road trains. Our car was driven by 11 students from both Ardingly College and Ifield Community College and was supported by 11 volunteers. Out of 52 entrants, 49 started and only 31 finished. Ardingly Solar not only completed over half the race using solar power alone but finished second in its category. We even completed a greater distance than both Cambridge and Stanford universities.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank all the staff and students involved.
