Scientists Lead Record-Breaking Results at Ardingly College

Ardingly College is celebrating an outstanding set of A Level results with star scientists leading the way to Cambridge and other top universities.

With 12 A*s and two A grades between them, Benedict McConnell, Jonathan Shoesmith and Philip Binns will be studying Medicine, Maths and Natural Sciences respectively at Cambridge University. Rebecca Thorne, who gained three A*s, has a place to read Medicine at UCL and Bethany Shoesmith with A*A*A will be studying Dentistry. George Lambie also did very well, gaining A*A*A  and will be reading Physics at UCL. Among successful applications for overseas universities, Jonah Adomakoh has a won a scholarship for the University of California.

Overall, today's results mean that 50% of all grades for Upper Sixth students were A* and A and 80% of all grades were awarded A*-B. At a time when the top grades are getting harder to achieve this is something to celebrate and the students should be very proud of their success.

The achievements of the A level students build upon Ardingly College's International Baccalaureate results, published early last month, which gave students an average of 38 points, the entry requirement for Oxbridge. In IB, AS and A level, 2015 students have produced the College's best results ever.

Ardingly pupils continue to excel across the curriculum because of the focus on independent study skills and the processes of learning. In addition to the science success, 100% of students gained A*-A in German, Art and Chinese, 100% of students gained A*-B in French, Classical Civilisation and Drama and 85% of students gained A*-B grades in History.

Headmaster Ben Figgis said: "The higher their grades, the more options students have for their future. In celebrating these outstanding results, we congratulate each of our A Level and IB leavers who have achieved or exceeded their expectations, and thereby taken their first secure step towards their futures beyond school. They will be the first to recognise the contributions of their teachers and parents who have helped them to make the most of their academic abilities in these record-breaking results."
