Schola and Senior Music Scholars wow local audience in concert at St. Peter’s, Chailey

On Thursday 1st February, music scholars from the College, alongside the Schola Cantorum, gave a full evening recital at St. Peter’s Church in Chailey. This was a concert filled with variety, in both musical genre but also within the 12 unaccompanied items that Schola cantorum performed. In preparation for their forthcoming CD recording, Schola opened the concert with some sacred works by Lloyd, Rachmaninov and Stanford, his emotive 6 part anthem Beati a particular favourite with the assembled audience. Following this, there were assured performances from Helene Maurice-Jones (Shell), Tom Hopson and Oliver Pilgrim (L6) and Amelia Cameron (Remove). Following a prolonged interval which included some fine refreshments, Sophie Crooks, Melissa Terzi and the newly formed College Wind Trio of Isabelle Worssam, Tom Hopson and Melissa Terzi performed, with the latter performing two movements from Madeleine Dring’s extremely atmospheric and complex Trio. The Schola Cantorum rounded off the programme with some lighter numbers including Billy Joel’s favourite ‘And so it goes’. A wonderful evening of music making was enjoyed by all and the College would like to extend its gratitude to all those at St. Peters who made the evening so warm, welcoming and enjoyable.
