On Friday 11th March, a team of the finest Mathematicians in Remove travelled to Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton, to take part in the FMSP Maths Feast. The event, held by the Further Mathematics Support Programme, is designed to encourage lateral thinking as well as active mathematical engagement. The rounds included a ‘starter’ of True or False questions, an ‘amuse bouche’ of Countdown-style questions, an ‘entrée’ creating and using pentominos, a ‘main course’ comprehension on Complex Numbers (two dimension numbers with an ‘imaginary’ component), and a ‘dessert’ of relay questions. It was a very engaging afternoon, with some new and stretching ideas thrown at all the teams. The Ardingly team acquitted themselves tremendously, really finding the event stimulating and working effectively as a team; they performed very well, and came first in the Amuse Bouche round. Many congratulations to them.
