Students from Ardingly College have raised £415 for Haywards Heath foodbank.
They raised the money through three different initiatives; including a social service foodbank project, making mint jelly and sauce to sell and also foregoing dinners of their own through ‘no pudding days’.
Student Mik Nekrasov said:
“I was very surprised to discover the foodbank was so well organised and carefully planned. The people, the atmosphere and the cause is excellent. We are very lucky to have a place like this for people to come to when they are in crisis and need food. The staff are so nice and provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food for people in need.”
Richard, Honorary Treasurer of the Foodbank said:
“We are so grateful for the donation. This will enable us to buy up to 300 kilos of food which we really need. It costs £13,000 a year to run the Charity and next year our funding from the government is being cut by £6000 so we need as much help as possible.”
Ardingly college will continue to raise funds for the foodbank from sales of goods grown and made on their campus and through monthly ‘no pudding days’ when then students forego a sweet at the end of their meal and the money goes towards the charity.
