Congratulations to the 2018 leavers who have achieved outstanding results in A Levels, IB Diploma, Pre-U and BTEC qualifications. Rising to the challenge of tougher exams this year, the A Level students made sure they secured top grades with nearly half of all entries at A* or A grade. Having received their results earlier in the summer, our IB candidates have spent the summer celebrating a record 39 point average, a new record for the College that places us among the top dozen IB schools in the UK.
A vintage year
Congratulations to the 2018 leavers who have achieved outstanding results in A Levels, IB Diploma, Pre-U and BTEC qualifications.
Results highlights
- Over 50% of the year group gained at least one A* at A Level or grade 7 in the IB.
- 1/3rd of the year group achieved a full sweep of A*/A or grades 7 or 6 in the IB.
- Record results for the IB Diploma and at A* and A grades for A Levels.
- 18 students achieved 40+ points.
- Another 18 students achieved all A*s and As at A Level or Distinctions in the Pre-U.
Academic choice and achievement
Headmaster Ben Figgis praised the commitment of the year group to the courses they had chosen:
“Ardingly prides itself on providing the widest possible choice of courses and subjects, and more than ever before this is working to the advantage of our students. Being able to choose from A Level, IB Diploma, Pre-U or BTEC courses has enabled our students to play to their strengths and maximise their potential. The results speak for themselves, and our leavers have now established very sound academic foundations for their future study and careers.
Ardingly has an excellent track record in helping students raise their grades from Cs to Bs and Bs to As. This year we have also made a real impact at the top end, increasing A*s from 18% to 27% and showing that Ardingly can add value for every student at the top, middle and lower end of the cohort.”
Girls excel in co-education
Also notable is the continued success of our female students, proving that co-education is no barrier to academic success for girls: 35% of girls’ entries achieved the top grade and 75% achieved grades A*/A or the equivalent in the IB or pre-U qualifications.
Strong start for BTECs at Ardingly
Another cause for celebration is the success of our first cohort of BTEC students this year. BTECs offer Sixth form students the chance to introduce practical elements in their academic study, and in doing so provide an excellent learning experience and route to Russell Group and other universities. Two Sixth formers achieved Double Distinction and Double Starred Distinction respectively.
