Years 1 and 2
Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
Step into Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) at Ardingly College Farmhouse Prep. Here, we nurture the budding curiosity fostered in Nursery and Reception, crafting an environment that’s both thrilling and intellectually rich.
In Year 1, we begin refining their enthusiasm and curiosity, slowly introducing more formal learning. By Year 2, children develop self-initiated learning and gain further independence.
Progressing through the pre-prep years, your child learns to be more self-reliant. Year 2 students, being the oldest in the Farmhouse, assume greater responsibilities, like becoming Prefects and touring on Open Days.
Our exceptional offerings encompass special STEM days, providing your child with a head start in the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
A vital part of our curriculum is the understanding and appreciation of nutrition. To facilitate this, our catering department steps out of the kitchen and into the classroom, teaching children the importance of healthy eating.
Our learning approach harnesses the expertise of our specialist staff. Children receive top-notch instruction from our dedicated sports, music, and art departments, encouraging their talent and fostering a holistic development.
Swimming is no mere extra-curricular here; it’s a part of our weekly curriculum. We ensure that our children gain confidence in the water, learning a skill that could serve them for a lifetime.
Nature is our greatest teacher, and we embrace this ethos with our weekly Forest School sessions. Under the guidance of our Forest School Leader, children experience the wonder of the natural world, fostering their curiosity and environmental awareness.
We ensure a seamless transition to the KS2 years. Our students spend time in School House facilities, meet Year 3 pupils and staff, and gradually adapt to a more formal yet creative, child-centred curriculum. By the end of Year 2 end, our aim is to have fostered a happy, confident individual, ready to move up.
