Dance
Co-Curricular Dance
In the Early Years and Prep School, Dance is a part of our extensive Games and After-School programme.
Students in Reception to Year 2 can enjoy creative dance during games as well as part of their after-school activities that include Musical Theatre, Street Dance and Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet (additional provision).
Our Year 3 – Year 6 can take weekly sessions in games that focus on the learning of Contemporary and Jazz styles. Our after-school session concentrates on Hip Hop and Commercial styles. RAD Ballet and National Association (Contemporary) dance classes and examinations can be chosen as additional after-school provision too. Students also have access to the Art Award Scheme which allows them to gain awards in the arts that can later be applied to their higher education applications. Once a part of our dance community, students will also be able to access other opportunities such as trips to the theatre, workshops, and dance intensive courses.
Curriculum Dance
Dance makes up a key component of the Creative Arts Unit that all Year 3 – Year 6 students will have as part of their Physical Education programme during their academic year.
CREATIVE DANCE (EARLY YEARS & PREP YEAR 3-6)
An introduction to Contemporary Dance, Creative Dance combines movement with artistic expression. It is the perfect building block for children interested in the arts but who are yet to have had any formal training. The style focuses on the development of motor skills, confidence building and expression. Sessions are usually themed or linked with their curriculum topics and children will be encouraged to use their imaginations to create original movement alongside the technical skills they will be+ become accustomed to within classes.
Dance Festival: Summer Dance Fest
Students in Year 3 to Year 6 work towards our afternoon celebration of Dance during the Lent and early Trinity term. The show is a complete variety of dance styles and performances, including our students own choreographic creations. The event takes please outside (weather permitting) and boasts a ‘country fete’ feel, enjoyed by all parents, friends and family.
