Oscar McConnell Heads for D.C. with a Double Scholarship

Ardingly College Upper Sixth Form student Oscar McConnell has scored a double success, winning a place at the prestigious American University Washington D.C. with both a Dean’s Scholarship for academic success and a soccer scholarship to become part of their elite athlete programme.
Oscar is planning to major in Philosophy and Politics, both of which he takes alongside Business Studies at A Level. He visited the American University in January and was impressed by the facilities and courses and by the ambition with which the coaches spoke about their programme. The men’s soccer team competes at the top end of Division One.
In the meantime, midfielder Oscar plays for the ISFA England U18 team as well as the College 1st X1 and the Athletics team. Oscar says: “Ardingly has given me a platform to develop both my sport and academics to a high level, providing me with extensive encouragement and guidance in both areas. To study and play in the US is something I have worked hard for and I cannot wait to get out there and challenge myself further. I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from Ardingly to achieve this.”
