Employabilty and Commercial Acumen

Take a Risk

Take a risk is a business-led competition where students are encouraged to be entrepreneurial and come up with a business idea and plan, which they then pitch to a panel of judges. Divided into Lower Sixth groups, each one is supported by a parent mentor. These mentors have many years of experience in business and students benefit hugely from their experience by learning to work in a professional manner, gaining buisness guidance on their plans and ideas and practicing appropriate business etiquette. They learn to build team work skills and the importance of learning to focus on delivering a project together. This programme is extremely popular with the students and many go to use these acquired skills in their future lives.

One Day Job  Challenge

At the beginning of the week we hold a Lower Sixth one day job challenge which includes a number of supportin preparation sessions. Every student completes a CV and application form and applies for a role from a range on offer.

As part of the day every student will be interviewed by one of our professional parents who kindly take part in the day offering invaluable interview skills and feedback.

In addition to this, there is an on-the-spot challenge where the final successful candidates are asked to talk on a subject that is pulled out of a hat.
The finalists from this round are then asked to prepare a presentation in 30 minutes to present to the final judging panel and their peer set.
We believe this rigorous process gives every student a real flavour of applying for a job in the real world.
