Recently, 12 Lower Sixth Pupils from Ardingly College have taken part in the CANSAT project, successfully launching their satellites on the 14th March at the Cranfield Ordnance Test Centre on Salisbury Plain.

The CANSAT project is an an Engineering challenge, sponsored by the European Space Agency, to design and build a working satellite the size and mass of a standard 330ml drinks can.

The can is launched to a height of up to 1km and must descend safely under parachute, whilst completing mission objectives. The primary mission is to calculate altitude and transmit by radio to a ground station.
