Black History Month

This year, Ardingly College’s celebration of Black History Month was ably led by the students of Ubuntu Society, and a working group of staff and students. Responding to the national theme ‘Time for Change: Actions not Words’, our aim was to celebrate and amplify Black culture and excellence. In harmony with our College ethos, we hoped to foster an environment of openness, curiosity and inclusion in the community. Students and staff were educated, inspired and engaged through a diverse range of specialist speakers and thought-provoking events, from author talks and dance workshops to a fascinating discussion on diversity in the Magazine industry.

Students from Ubuntu spoke eloquently about their lived experience and the importance of unity and action during a moving Chapel service. The celebrations culminated in Ubuntu Presents, a truly remarkable evening celebration of Black culture, music and delicious Caribbean food in the café where students gathered to perform the work of Black artists and celebrate diversity.
