Ardingly Holiday Club launched during the Easter Holidays. Open to current and incoming Ardingly Prep School students and their friends, it provides familiar surroundings and faces, as well as welcome entertainment and child-care during the holiday breaks.
The familiar surroundings and faces of Mr and Mrs Calvey, Mr Klingham, Mr Gritton and friends from school enabled the children to quickly settle into the club.
The activities
Divided into groups based on age, the children participated in a range of activities throughout the day – art, capture the flag, dodgeball, loom bands, water polo to name but a few. But the favourite time of the day seemed to be the visit to the tuck shop for an ice cream or slushy.
Making settling in easyThe youngest attending the Club were from Year two. They benefited enormously from spending time in the Prep School, familiarising themselves with the surroundings, getting to know the older children as well as Mr Calvey. This will help enormously with settling into Year Three in September and we look forward to welcoming more newbies to the Summer Club.
Keeping the brain ticking over
The Year eight pupils, embraced the activities but also benefitted from the quiet time, where they were able to do some essential CE revision. During the long holiday period reading and academic work dies off, but the Club builds in supervised time each day where children are encouraged to read or do some educational activity to keep their brain ticking over. The teachers are also on hand to assist. No one complained on the end of week survey!
