The start of the match was balanced as both sides weighed each other up, but Ardingly started to create chances mid-way through the first half as Jak Alcock and then Oscar Haynes Brown both hit the woodwork. It was 0-0 at half time, and Royal Russell then came back strongly in the second half, forcing a fine save from David Bonilla. The match stayed fairly even, and went to extra time, where both teams had good chances to finish the match. However, it was when Oscar Haynes Brown capitalised on a slip from the defender, and keeping his balance, rounded the keeper to score that the deadlock was broken. Some resolute defending from Ardingly then saw the game out to send Ardingly through.
Ardingly have two finals to look forward to now. The Elgin Southern Cup final against Bedes will be played on Wednesday 24th February at Dulwich Hamlet FC, whilst the ISFA Cup final against Bradfield will be on Monday 7th March at Milton Keynes Dons FC. Ardingly will be defending both cups, having completed the double last year.
