Ardingly was created for the “sons of small shopkeepers, farmers, mechanics and others of limited means” to provide “a good and complete education at such a charge as will make it available for most of them.”
Today, a generous bursary scheme supports students unable to attend the College without financial assistance. Transformational bursaries (greater than 75% of fees) ensure an Ardingly education is open to all young people with the potential to thrive at the College.
The gift of education is life-changing for the individual but a generous bursary scheme also benefits the wider Ardingly community: all our students gain from being part of a supportive community that is inclusive, friendly and diverse.
Thanks to a substantial legacy from the estate of an Old Ardinian who attended the College during the 1940s, we have established an Endowment Fund, the annual income from which is used to fund bursaries. The Fund stands at £1.5 million today and it is our ambition to double this figure.
The College is committed to supporting an increasing number of students on bursaries, particularly fully-funded transformational bursaries, and therefore the generosity of our community will be essential as we look to build our Endowment Fund for current applicants as well as future generations to come.
