Science Outdoor Environmental Project
This year has seen the exciting ‘birth’ of the much dreamed
about outdoor wilderness area. The
beauty of this project is the passion that it has already instilled with the
children and I am delighted to introduce our new Outdoor Wilderness club.
The project is at present 2 fold: The development of an outdoor garden and outdoor classrooms
within the woodland around the old gym.
As well as growing a range of exciting vegetables, the aim of the garden
area is to introduce some traditional methods of outdoor cooking using the
natural materials in the surrounding woodlands and to put into practise some of
Nick Weston’s tips – maybe not the Badger burger though! We are already learning willow weaving
as we plant out the boundary ‘fedgeing’.
The idea of having a fence that will sprout into life with the rest of
the garden come the spring, is what the ambition of this garden is all about;
Keeping it organic, full of wonder and exciting to all the ages of the
school. The garden will ultimately
have sculptures, paintings, turbines, a wig wham of sorts, and a clay fire to
cook up both the wild food of the woods as well as the garden produce! Surrounding the garden is the woodland
where there is already 1 decked area for lessons and hopefully we will have a
huge range of animal boxes up in time for the breeding season.
To bring so many conservation projects to life is a dream
come true and I can’t wait to see the changes that occur over the forthcoming
year.
