Charity Fair
This years Charity Fair was a great success. The variety and inventiveness of the
stalls was better than ever and the enthusiasm and commitment pupils who took
part was a great credit to the school.
For the first time the fair took place on North Quad and the weather
thankfully co-operated. There was
a real ‘village green’ atmosphere as the pupils arrived from chapel.
Over 140 pupils were involved in running stalls; many chose
charities on their own and ran their stalls entirely unaided. Others had some parental help and
operated on a grander scale. The
ethos of the event continues to be that pupils have the opportunity to raise
money for a charity they choose by running a stall of their choice. This makes the charity fair a unique
opportunity for the children to make a genuine difference. Chosen charities varied enormously, from
Cats Protection to NSPCC, from national organisations to those based here in
Sussex.
The clean-up operation afterwards to prepare the Quad for
open day was of military precision –and included Mr Smith vacuuming the
grass. As ever, the willingness of
the staff to help out is vital to the success of these events.
Well over £2000 was raised over the afternoon and all those
who took part should be very proud of their efforts. I am sure we can make next year even bigger and better.
