IB and A Level results 2008

Ardingly is celebrating outstanding IB and A Level results this summer which have placed Ardingly 7th in The Independent’s  league table of schools offering both A levels and IB.

All 41 students who studied the IB course were awarded the Diploma, 87% of their grades being the equivalent of As and Bs at A Level. The results are a four per cent improvement on last year.

The maximum score for the IB Diploma is 45 points and this year Ardingly students averaged 34.7 points, equivalent to over four A grades at A Level and well above the 2007 worldwide average score of 30.

Eighteen-year-old Josh Stevens from Forest Row, achieved 44 points, putting him in the top 1 per cent of the 50,000 IB students worldwide. He will be taking a gap year before deciding where to study next.  Ten other Ardingly College candidates scored 38 points or more, thereby achieving the minimum entrance requirements for Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Josh said: “I am so pleased with the results. I really enjoyed studying the IB. The breadth of subjects suited me down to the ground and I’ve benefited from the international perspective of the examination.”

Sapphire Samiullah, who achieved 42 points – putting her in the top 2 percent worldwide was also thrilled. She is going to Warwick to study English and Theatre Studies.

The school once again also achieved a 100% overall pass rate in its A-level results, with more than 75% of the A-level grades coming in at A or B level. On average, the students scored 529 points on the new QCA scale, which is the equivalent of more than 4A grades at advanced level.  The percentage of A grades at A-level – 40% - was up on last year’s 32%.

A-level top achievers included both British and international students. Vincent Tsoi achieved 5 A grades and  is going on to read Pharmacy at Nottingham University,  Frankie Kwok, (4As 1B)  will read Biochemistry at Oxford, Chloe Gott, from Uckfield

(4As), will read Theology and RS at Leeds, and Harry McGahan, from Ardingly, obtained 4As and will take a gap year before continuing with his studies.  Kelvin Ng (4As 1 B) is to read Physics at Imperial. Matthew Marsh, from Reigate obtained 3As and 1C and will read History and Politics at Oxford and Mengni Cui, (4As 1E) and Xiaoli Tang (4As) will both read Mathematics at Imperial College

Ardingly College Headmaster Peter Green said: “We are delighted to announce yet another year of outstanding results which confirm our belief that the College is going from strength to strength. Not only does Ardingly produce students who are well-rounded in sport, music and the arts, but also very able academically. They are to be congratulated on their hard work, as are our teaching staff for drawing the best out of each and every student.”
