Boys' Lent Term Sport reports

Boys’ Sport

Over the past 2 weeks the senior hockey sides have played Alleyn's, Christ's Hospital and Beacon Sport College in the county cup. The first team have been playing a flowing style of hockey and are starting to gain the rewards. George Banks and Josh Anderson both represented the 1st team and are becoming important members of the squad.

The 2nd team contain a number of fifth form pupils, and against Christ’s Hospital on Saturday; they dominated the play and deserved more than a 2-0 loss. It was particularly pleasing to see the fifth link well together.  Jason Hong, Chris Marsh, Ben Burns, James Wilson, Jake Bower and David Hughes in goal all strengthened the 2nd team. The performance was even more pleasing when we realise that this took place without the normal stalwarts of the 2nds in Jonny Bleach and Sam Wade.

The first 3rd team game for many years was played against Alleyn's two weeks ago and the Fifth featured heavily in the team. With some excellent play from Sam Elwin, Edward Syed and Rupert Williams in defence,  and Charlie Cerullo, Harry Stevens and Harry Key in midfield and attack Ardingly dominated long periods of play but, with 15 minutes to go Alleyn's broke and scored the winning goal. The boys can look forward to their next game on Saturday against Hurst.

In the recent Cross Country run at Stanmer Park, two more fifth form boys represented the college. Edward Kilby (who is on his way back to full fitness) was placed 15th in the U20’s race and Sam Wade finished 4th in the U17 age group. Sam has therefore been asked to represent the Sussex team in the Southern Inter counties and/or the English Schools Championships in the coming weeks.

The achievements of all the fifth form boys reflect the motivated and enthusiastic attitude that this year group display to sport and to competing at the highest level. They should be congratulated on their efforts and we look forward to announcing more successes as the term develops.
