Top Marks For Ardingly IB Students, 2007

Top Marks for Ardingly IB Students !

Students at Ardingly College celebrated another year of outstanding International Baccalaureate diploma results.

Nine of the College sixth-formers attained 39 or more marks out of the maximum 45 – the standard required for entry to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

The high-scoring local students included Titus Todd from Cuckfield with 42 points, Michael Captain from Fletching and Kathryn Austin from East Grinstead with 41 points, Talissa Dewhurst from Dormansland and Colin Nemorin-Noel from Chichester, each with 40 points, and, with 39 points,  Laura Burgess from Danehill and Emme Willcocks from Haywards Heath. Michael scored an additional 5 points on a rarely-taken seventh subject.

Of the 37 pupils to qualify this year, 16 students scored 36 points or more, which is equivalent to three A grades at A Level.

The five students who obtained 40 marks and over are in the top 7% of the 50,000 IB students worldwide to complete this year's diploma. Titus, with 42 points, is in the top 3%.

Ardingly College Headmaster John Franklin took a pioneering step when he introduced the IB to the College in 2001, but results have improved year on year, as greater numbers of students opt to study the IB instead of A-levels. Now, almost 50% of Ardingly College Sixth Formers study the continental-style IB, which is highly regarded by universities in the UK and overseas.

Mr Franklin said that the overall average of 34.1 points, out of a maximum of 45, equating to AAB at A-level, was 'outstanding'.

Ardingly College IB Coordinator John Langford said: “This year’s results are as good as we’ve ever had and are a tribute to the hard work of the students and their teachers.”
