Peter Molyneux B 1937 - 41
Peter died on Wednesday 2nd August 2006. Until December he had been fit and healthy and leading an active life. He was struck down by a rare and incurable lung disease.
At Ardingly Peter was best known for sporting prowess. He captained the school cricket team and became a fast bowler who was much feared by opposing teams. He also cut an imposing figure as drum major in the CCF heading the school band.
His ambition on leaving school was to join the Army and he enlisted as an officer cadet at Sandhurst. Unfortunately his career was cut short when it was discovered that he had asthma and was invalided out.
He made a new career in the oil buisness with 24 years of it spent in the West Indies. He returned to England in 1974 and worked in London for a few years before taking early retirement. He was married to Jocelyn for 60 years celebrating his diamond wedding in June this year. He has three wonderful daughters, Susanne who lives with her husband in Spain, Annette with 2 children and a grandchild living in Trinidad and Liz who lives in Flackwell Heath with her husband and two grown up children.
Peter's life on returning to the UK was centred around cricket and golf. He became a member of the MCC regularly attending cricket matches at Lords. He took up golf when he was nearing retirement. He never took a lesson and by the time he was 70 years old had reached single figures. On his 75th birthday he scored a gross 75 in a club competition and made the sports pages of the Daily Telegraph. Five years later he repeated this performance with a gross 80 on his 80th birthday.
A very popular character Peter will be very much missed by all who knew him.
