Chess Champion
A report from Scott's father, Mr Borland:
‘Scott played for the Sussex U9 chess team in Berkshire on Sunday 24th January. Sussex were convincing winners in a 4-Counties competition against Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, and Scott won all his games. It was very nice to see the camaraderie of the Sussex team and how well Scott got along with children who are mostly two years older than him.
Chess players are given numerical ratings, based on their performance in all games over the previous six months – a bit like the ATP ratings in professional tennis. Scott has now played enough games to be rated for the first time, and he is the highest-rated U7 player in the UK. He would be the third highest-rated U8 and just outside the top 10 as an U9. We had thought of keeping this from Scott, but he's so involved in the Sussex chess scene that it wasn't practicable – fortunately, it doesn't mean very much to him.'
Congratulations Scott!
