The new Cow Shed houses our Pre-Prep Reception Year, Year 1 and Year 2 classrooms. These year groups are made up of two parallel classes.
Our two pre-prep school Reception classes each have their own qualified teacher and teaching assistant and the new Foundation Stage curriculum forms the basis of children's learning. Subjects such as French, creative music and dance are taught by specialist members of staff.
Literacy is taught through a phonic multi-sensory approach, which provides the tools and skills necessary for the development of reading, writing and spelling. Children have a great deal of fun, learning little songs and playing games, which all lead to an excellent foundation for their future development.
In addition to classroom-based activities, all year groups enjoy exploring their surroundings in the outdoor environment. They are able to choose from a wealth of building materials, toys and games. Children also benefit from regular visits to places of interest within the local area. Visitors are always welcome and several parents and grandparents join us to talk about their work or to share their knowledge and experience with the children.
The National Curriculum provides the learning structure in both Years 1 and 2 (known as Key Stage 1). At this stage children learn to read music and play the recorder and a number attend individual instrumental lessons arranged through the College's Music School.
We have a well equipped computer suite with a range of programmes to develop and extend children's knowledge and learning. In addition, we have interactive whiteboards positioned strategically around the school and a computer in each class.
Children are offered healthy food and they are encouraged to be active during our school day through PE which includes: swimming, football, games skills, modern dance and gymnastics.
As mentioned, 'Before School Care' is available from 8.00 am each morning. At the end of the school day at 3.15 pm, children have the choice of going home, taking part in After School Activities or attending our 'After School Care' which runs until 6.00 pm. An additional charge is made for the 'After School Care'.
