Year 1 visited Crypt Chapel of the Ascension
Year 1 visited Crypt Chapel of the Ascension. After a short introduction about the history of the chapel, Fr David set the children some questions. A particularly difficult one was 'How many pelicans can you find in the Crypt Chapel?' The children enjoyed exploring the chapel, and looking at its many special features.
Ardingly College Pre-Prep Music Day 2013.
The day pulled together the talents of the London Philharmonic, VOCES8, The Tammy Trio, teachers and pupils, as we immersed ourselves in music. It was an action packed day designed to appeal to our children who range in age from 2 to 7. The day started with a vocal workshop with Mrs Greenwood. Followed by a walk up the hill to our chapel where we were treated to a performance by the London Philharmonic Quintet and VOCES8. Then we returned to the Pre-Prep for a range of workshops hosted by the class teachers.

An interesting discovery
An explorer in the family.
Year 2 uncovered an interesting piece of history this term. We have been exploring the world this term and looking at famous Explorers. To our great surprise one of our pupils informed us that her great, great, great uncle Thomas went to the Antarctic with Captain Scott. It was the first time uncle Thomas and Captain Scott's had visited the Antarctica.
Their ship was called The Discovery, and now it is in a museum in Dundee. Scott and his crew set sail to go to Antartica in 1901.
Ella compiled a booklet containing photos, articles, a newspaper clip and a family tree, and explained her connection to Captain Scott to her class. Making history really come alive for us all.
Love is in the air in the Pre-Prep (as always!)

Out in the cold with Forest School
Year 2 children have been braving the elements this term at Forest School. They have been testing the Forest School philosophy that there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing. Dressed in several layers, including two pairs of socks, plus hats and gloves they have been able to establish an explorer’s basecamp in an area of Standgrove wood.

Chess Club in the Pre-Prep
Now into its fourth week, the Pre-Prep Chess Club members are getting to grips with the nitty-gritty of chess. Although chess is, by nature, a competitive game, we are encouraging the children to talk about strategies and ask each other questions. This is helping to develop their understanding of the game and promotes a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Destination Outer space
We had a crash landing from a spaceship. Inside the spaceship were 4 aliens. It was our stunning start to our new topic ‘Destination Outer space’. All the Aliens need looking after. Over the coming weeks we will be helping them learn about humans and we will be learning about planets, rockets, stars and all things ‘spacey’.
