The Theology and Philosophy Reading Group
The Theology and Philosophy Reading Group
The Theology and Philosophy Reading Group meets fortnightly and is open to all sixth formers, but especially those considering applying to read Theology or Philosophy at university. Before each meeting a text is circulated for students to read. An introductory talk is given, and students are invited and encouraged to draw out the meaning of the text. Topics alternate between the explicitly theological and the more philosophical. Recent discussions have included Descartes' 'Meditations', G. K. Chesterton's ' The Maniac', and Plato's 'Euthyphro'. Sensible comments are rewarded with a glass of wine! The Group also undertakes occasional trips to relevant places of interest and is preparing to publish a journal of some of its work.
