Working with the Local Community

As part of their IB programme and as part of the Woodard Ethos of the school many students are involved in community service projects locally.

Most weekends groups head out to projects in the Sussex area. At present we are working with the National Trust at Standen House doing Forestry and Conservation and helping with the design and build of an outdoor education and play area for young children. Students are also involved in youth work helping at Activity Days doing rock climbing, drumming, drama, go-karting and other activities with children with disabilities through the local charity Aiming High for Disabled Children. We are planning some in house events for the local charity No Limits where students will plan and deliver a range of activities on site for children with special needs and their parents and carers. Students also go into Haywards Heath to help out at Playgroups and Social Groups like Kangaroos and Gateway. We are investigating an exciting peer education partnership with the Red Cross where our students will learn about Humanitarian Relief and First Aid and will be trained to go and deliver presentations in local schools.

Our Charity Action Team continues to raise funds and awareness with regular activities such as serving teas and coffees at Weekend Fixtures, organising Home Clothes Days and House Events. They are currently co-ordinating a collection of gifts for Haiti.

If you are a local group who would like to offer us a volunteering opportunity, please contact laura.white@ardingly.com
