RADA
Talented Emily Williams who is in the UVI and lives in Ardingly has won a coveted place at RADA, one of only 32 students to do so among thousands of young hopefuls. Emily, 17, who begins her Foundation Course at the top London drama school in September said: “I am really excited, quite nervous but really looking forward to next year.” After RADA she has her eye on a possible move to New York University to pursue a joint interest in politics and drama.
Emily began acting at school several years ago and also joined Haywards Heath Stage School, Act Too, appearing in a leading role as young Micky in Blood Brothers. At Ardingly, Emily has been in Chess and several other productions.
Emily is taking A Levels this summer in English, Drama and Religious Studies and also achieved an AS last year in History. But it has not been an easy path to success. Emily missed a term of lower sixth work when she was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumour on a breathing tube and endured a major operation in which part of her lung was removed.
Headmaster Peter Green said: “Emily has always been incredibly positive and wanted no special allowance despite her illness. She is an inspiration to us all and her success at RADA is well-deserved. The Course Director commented on her ‘really strong audition' and we are all very proud of her.”
